Boston
Mailers Union received its original Charter from the
International Typographical Union on March 17, 1892.
Local 1 consisted of 50 members. The I.T.U. closed its
doors due to new advanced technology on December 31,
1986.
Without
an International Union for two and one half months, the
Boston Mailers' voted by secret ballot to affiliate with
the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union. On
March 12, 1987, a charter was issued by the IBT to Boston
Mailers Union Local 1.
What
We Do
Local
No. 1 represents approximately 300 members and has collective
bargaining agreements with Boston area newspapers. President
Mary White is the full time Executive Officer.
The
members, referred to as "Mailers," perform
duties pertaining to the inserting and distribution of
the daily newspaper and Sunday circulation. |
